If I had to describe my work, I'd say it is about comfort and memory, with whimsy often thrown in.
My work is often described as folk art. I call it Rustic/Hip. Each piece is handmade and one-of-a-kind.
I create each piece in my shop/studio then display the work in my tiny showroom, Cozy Jewel.
I invite you to visit my sweet little paradise located halfway between Santa Fe and Las Vegas, New Mexico

My trusty red hammer and I have been shop mates for over 20 years. As I work, my old dogs keep an eye on me and have become accustomed to the whirl of saws and sanders. My cat Lovey in the photo has since passed on but she too hung out in the shop with me.
I love the beauty of old wood. As it ages, it comes into its own much as people do: interesting lines and curves develop, deep grains come forward, coloration is recognized. Sometimes fragile, sometimes tough and unyielding. I try to be mindful of all this as I recycle the wood into a new life and purpose. I am mostly self-taught and have been making nichos and folk art for over two decades. Lately my passion has been making these quirky characters I call ZinTins. Tin is maleable and forgiving and there seems to be no end in what can be made with it. Rusty tin and new tin are both a delight to pound, shape, stamp and twist. My work has been shown in galleries in New Mexico, Colorado and other states. My Cozy Jewel showroom was a stopping point on the Pecos Art Tour for more than ten years. Through the years, I've been featured in several local magazines and papers, like The Albuquerque Journal and Su Casa Magazine.
Sometimes, it's difficult for me to let my pieces go since I know each one so intimately, but sharing them brings another kind of joy and simply allows me to get to work making more! |
